Researches are focusing towards effects screening of micropollutant’s applying freshwater environmental/ecotoxicological tests and methods including standardized assays using phytoplankton, macrophytes, zooplankton, macroinvertebrates (sediment dwelling organisms, mussels, amphipod crustaceans), fish (Danio rerio and Cyprinus carpio embryo, juvenile and adult also) and non-standardized test methods including In Vivo and In Vitro biochemical assays.
The applied toolset of biochemical markers includes phase I and II xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes; modulation of ROS defence mechanism and markers of oxidative tissue damage, oxidation state of glutathione; markers of potential endocrine disrupting effects; metabolic enzymes and status indicators (rate of lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates).
