Development of methods for fish quality testing
The demand for good quality fish products is increasing due primarily to the transformation of consumers’ habits. The main factors influencing meat quality in aquaculture are: (i) feeding, rearing and environmental conditions; as well as (ii) slaugthering-processing methods. Our aim is to investigate the effects of alternative feed components and intensive rearing on the fish quality, on the other hand a non-invasive assessment method based on near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is under development in our lab. The new non-invasive method can play an important role in selective breeding and evaluation of fish quality.
