Genetic and morphometric study of the pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) at the Carpathian Basin, with special regard to the Lake Balaton stock.
We plan to survey the natural and fishpond stocks in the Carpathian Basin to determine genetic and morphological differences. We will identify the larger natural stocks as well as the major fish farms that we will sample. During the study of the Lake Balaton pikeperch and volga pikeperch (Sander volgensis) stock, we examine the existence of possible subpopulations, the effect of geographical distance and environmental isolation by sampling the main basins. By comparing the databases of the two species, it becomes possible to determine the extent of hybridization and its spatial frequency.
