The main topic area of the Department is aquatic and conservation ecology. We conduct excessive fieldwork-based research in relation with the spread and potential effects of non-indigenous aquatic organisms (especially fish and crayfish species). Other focus areas are the aquaculture-environment interactions, the potential effects of micropollutants (mainly pharmaceutically active compounds) on fish assemblage structure, physiology (enzymatic level)w and the phenotype of fish. Besides, we have experience with developing alternative spawning and larvae rearing techniques especially for endangered fish species.
